  1. 8 Current seating arrangement before departure (8,5) ELECTRIC CHAIR [CD]

Many present day politicians need this sentence

    1. But due to electricity companies' unhappiness with government audit, there will be no power supply

    2. How will the departure take place, when power loss happens mid-way when on e-chair?

  2. A successful outing with Arden's puzzle today, for the first time ! Had trouble in annotating TENTATIVE. An entertaining and enjoyable crossy. Thanks, Arden.

  3. 4 Relish only when down wind (5) GUSTO {GUST}{O} Anno not clear

O: Only. Down wind: Below GUST. GUST + O

    1. O for only not found in Chambers

    2. Chambers shows Gust by itself having an archaic meaning as Relish

    3. O can come 'only' from only, or else there's no place for it in the clue.

  4. Woohoo! I completed Arden for the first time today too!! Had to take help for a couple of them - TRAMMEL truly was an impediment for me. Also 17D distracted me with LAPDANCES - it took me half a minute to give that image up and go for a different scenery with LANDSCAPE.

  5. 2 Did well then, partly to drive away (7) THRIVED {THe}{DRIVE*}

I think, THen should appear in the Anno pl.

  6. Liked the construction of 9 and 19 D. Diamond in 23 D could probably have had a capital D?

  7. Good CW and enjoyed solving it. Finished well in time except for a couple of doubts. I always get into problems with deletion (14A- India-in)
Slide Rule- I still have it and so problem in filling it!
6D- 'en' & 'em' are measures? Music or printing? I took it as &lit since enema is a procedure before surgery.

  8. 1A - When someone enters the web world, if others ask, 'Who's that feller?', the obvious answer is 'logger'. ;-)

  9. I am an old timer still thinking of felling logs! (though I wondered if 'feller' meant fellow)

    1. Arden probably meant felling of logs, imo

  11. 18A: What's the role of 'as they say'?

15D: Even if the distinction between opera and musical can be blurred at times, I would have preferred the latter term here, since Evita is not something to comes to mind when one says opera.

    1. 18a: "Move it", I suppose is slang (as they say).

      15d: Musical is apter.

  12. Good crossword Arden.
Was it a tad easier than your earlier offerings?
