    2. I happened to come in late today and did not go to the Acrosslite version. Instead I looked at the left items list to cold solve them and was surprised to see some of them missing. Hence, I stumbled upon the error.

  26. A puzzle forwarded to me by a friend:

Laura and her friends have gone away for the weekend to a big mansion in the countryside. She is having a clandestine affair with, George, one of her friends and wants to pass a secret message to him. She sneaks into the kitchen and leaves the following strange list.

    sew
    val
    bead
    ice
    ben
    hop
    mat

George adds a letter to each item in the list and instantly heads to a certain part of the house. Where does he go?

My addendum to the puzzle: Can you also guess what they might do next?

  31. Kishore's insruction is incomplete.

After inserting one letter in each of those words, you have to string together the inserted letters to form a word that is the answer.

Hint: Think of a famous first line in a film song in a Mani Ratnam movie of yesteryear.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The fifth word in Kishore's list is BEN.
It will be of greater help if the given word is BENS.
Still a letter has to be inserted there as you do in all other cases.

  34. My apologies for missing what CV has pointed out. Since I had solved without that instruction, I did not see the need for it. One friend of ours solved with his heart and lodged the pair in some other quarters. His logic was to look for a seven letter location in the house.

    1. Unlike crossword clues which are expected give all instructions of anagram, insertions, deletions etc. most other puzzles require you to figure out the next step for yourself. Maybe that is why this puzzle did not have that specific instruction, which CV has rightly pointed out. No doubt, after solving it himself.
