  1. Good morning all

Had to take Google chacha's help for COCHINEAL INSECT and LAUGH OUT OF COURT. Learnt a new phrase. I had heard of only out-of-court settlements so far. By the way, laughing inside the court could amount to contempt of court. :)

Got many at first look, including USURER, CLINICAL, FAITH HEALERS, CANVASSING, SOCIOPATHY, BEARS UP, AWAKES and a few others. Liked ROLLING STOCK, PLUCKY, KOPECK (remembered old favourite Gregory), SIMPLETON (anno for MP not clear. Will check from the blog).

  4. Nice one. Like 4d the best. I took it as Steadily moving = Rolling, Merchandise= Stock , On track ? = Defn ( http://www.thefreedictionary.com/rolling+stock )
    Took 17A as Telesopic clue

  5. PGW fans may recall his use of "people" in his inimitable style as in 15 A in "Girl on the Boat"

    1. Good use of the word 'people' thrice. No jarring effect.

    2. Richard, it was interesting and that's why it reminded me of PGW's usage:

People's people generally want people to marry people, people don't want to marry

  6. Sankalak never disappoints !

Did not get Kopeck. Had some trouble getting the insect & wake (in 18D) Laugh out of court was new, but was able to get it since it is an anagram.

Kohl & Gregory Peck revived old memories.

Liked 5D. Corporal punishment is very much in the news these days.

Why is it that Sion is the favourite Bombay suburb for many CW's?

  7. Col. Are we getting a special even if The Hindu puts out an online only crossword ?

    1. Since tomorrow is a working day in South, many may not be able to participate in the special CW tomorrow unless it pops up with sunrise.

    2. Renga, you seem to be very proficient in Hindi. You may remember the beautiful rendition of this bhajan in the Hindi movie Purab Aur Pacchim in 1970, produced and directed by Mr Bharat - Manoj Kumar - with himself and Saira Banu in the lead. Sung soulfully by Mahendra Kapoor with chorus under Kalyanji Anandji's baton. Would like to recommend it to all those who have not heard it.

    3. Enjoyed, Rengaswamy. This will be on top of the chart today for all "forward" addicts like me.

  9. There will be an issue of the Hindu tomorrow in Vizag. Probably tomorrow may be the holiday here, Dussara being the important day here.

    What about other States?

  10. On the train headed for Chennai, not seen the Bangalore edition since different states are on different wavelengths and since there is going to be an online edition with a CW, a special will not be in order

That was really great! As DS said it is going to be forwarded many times over ( including of course mime)

  14. Rengaswamy:
Why not? Google is Goddess Saraswati personified. Our oblations to her. Since you have addressed your doggerel in the masculine gender, I'd prefer Ardha-Nareeswar. God is sarva-vyaapi, like Google-ji. Jai Google ! May you rule the cyberworld for all time to come and teach the world leaders how to be only, giving , giving and giving and not ask for anything in return !!

    Vidhya daataye Namah !!
