    10A- HE coming up for ambassador again. This time I remembered.
    4D- an offbeat type of check.
    25A- Boffin was new. But filled in thanks to crossings.
    18D- Is 'close' part of the def. or clue? Looks like only 'companion' is the def. with close for end.
