    1. Kishore,

B has a habit of penning a short note on top when he is blogging. I was wondering what it could be for today's superb CW. Suggestions & comments invited.

    2. @Kishore, anticipating the former, I had requested Colonel to swap with me so I got Neyartha yesterday : )

  3. superb CW today. i broke my head to solve some clues. love the clue "tired retina" -solved it the last minute .not many anagrams though. over all A+ on difficulty level. good day all,,, off i go!!

    1. The retina is right up your alley. But tell me something: are you a right eye specialist or a left eye specialist?

    2. Was reminded of a 'naval' specialist!!

    3. Haha, what u ask is true. But I am a cataract surgeon, so I guess.. I can call myself bilateral specialist.

The first part of the ring Trilogy, Engagement Ring, Wedding Ring, and xxxxxxxxx (Home censor board has run its blue pencil through)

  5. There's much to admire in the crossword today.

A good variety of clue-types, smooth surface reading, unusual treatment (11a, for instance; or 21a where the homophone of 'I' is avoided)), apposite wordplay (27a), etc., etc.

A young setter who is an asset for THC.

    3. +2 ! I raise both hands. Pity he does not have time to set more CW's. I now know why. It must have taken a lot of time to get today's excellent CW in place.

  6. Mrs PP is well-advised not to click on the link 'skimpy number'.

As for me, I didn't need to click on it to imagine what was coming.

      You're incorrigible, man.

Only NOW did I understand what on earth you meant in your 8:33.

If you write something, also add Konar notes along with it so that we can see light.

      Delete
    3. CV sir, you can add notes to "KONAR NOTES" for non-tamilians as well as the younger gen.

We could not do without it in our schooldays!

To answer your mischievous query at 8:33, would it be a mirror reflection of the figure in front?

    6. Will someone write a corner note on what is meant by KONAR notes?

  7. The more I examine this crossword, the more I gape!
    Take 10a
Fashion model, glad to get first prize (4,5)
    What a superb clue!
In surface reading 'fashion' is an adj qualifying 'model'.
In wordplay, it is AInd and this time it's a verb.
The anag fodder being separated by comma is unusual.
The fact that 'is' is elliptical is taken care of by the comma.
That crossword is good when it stands up to scrutiny.
THC has had some setters most of whose clues won't endure even a cursory glance.

    1. @CV, of all the clues you had to pick this one!

I'm not going to hear the end of it because Amudha suggested that wordplay.

Kishore's third ring is what I'll have to endure now :)

      Delete
    2. Then, my friend, in spite of all your other great word play, she is the better half ! ;-) The Queen Bee, if may say so.

      Delete
    3. Queen Bee is not an apt def. Kishore. It has negative connotations

      Delete
    4. Oh, dont worry, Big B will take it in his stride. ;-)

    5. When mentioning the three rings, why did you suff....ocate the third one? But most have caught it, beginning with Bhavan.

  9. 16 - Push off internal cricketing body problems (7) - HICCUPS {H{ICC}UPS*}: should ICC not be 'international cricketing body'?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. "internal" is used to indicate that the cricketing body i.e. ICC is inside (internal) HUPS (Push off). Cryptic part is a bit complex here prolly 'cause of the clue arrangement.

  16. Suresh, I like monkeys, I photograph them wherever I meet them- I've been meeting them from my very tender years:my mother got scared when she saw a baby monkey taking the pendant of the gold chain this baby monkey was wearing while on picnic to a riverside.
What intelligent eyes! How soft their palms feel when I feed them with whatever eatable I have with me! I have a whole collection of their photos-posted in facebook!

  17. My wife had a close encounter with a huge man- size baboon in the Nairobi National Park, whilst on a safari, as it tried to jump through an open window of the car to snatch sandwiches that she had packed to have with my daughter. It was a desolate picnic spot she found to be safe but turned out otherwise. Promptly, thanks to the automatic window system in the Benz, she could fire the engine and have the windows rolled up. The leering and angry monkey jumped on the bonnet and ripped the windshield off and she could drive off, using her presence of mind, escaping with minor scratches on the right hand. She had to take an anti-tetanus shot.Talk about ancestral filiality.

If any one is named MORRISON CARTER, he would not be happy being garotted for NARCOTERRORISM.A Weapon of Mass Destruction that Saddam Hussein was accused of by amBUSHing the Americans with.

Col: Why the theme could not be POWER, given, WOOD, METAL, STEAM ENGINE, STEED(FOR SPEED?)and REGENERATOR, not to speak of BLACKMARKETEER and NARCO TERRORISM,equally POWERful?

S(T)URGEON was ok b ut why should he be a

A no-brainer query. Who be the 'author' here? The Bloggers or the owner of the Blog-You?. Am a bit confused. On what basis does this mysterious admonition appear occasionally here?
Please clarify, since the cat in me is curious.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. There is nothing mysterious about it!

The owner of this blog rarely deletes a post; if he thinks any post of a visitor is inappropriate he can remove it.

Today - as on most other days, the author, that is the original poster, may themselves remove it. In which case the advice appears that this comment has been removed by the author.

An author may delete their post for various reasons.

To remove one where they had committed a typo before reposting it after making amends.

To remove one when it is overtaken by a previous comment that was not there when they started typing their message and thus avoid duplication.

To remove one where they thought they had made a thoughtless remark.

    2. Raju,

CV has replied your query. However I as owner of the blog can remove that detritus as wel,l in which case you will not see that comment also which states that 'the comment has been removed by the author' I do it occasionally but have not being doing so the last few days, as I was enjoying the few days with my granddaughter before she pushed off to Romania with her parents :-(
