  1. Apropos 14d, did you know George Boole, after whom Boolean algebra is named, was also a ‘conqueror of Everest’ in a different sort of way. He had married Mary Everest, George Everest’s niece, herself a self taught mathematician and co author with GB. The clue and the answer had me chuckling.

    Regarding the ‘vice captain’, though one cannot help remembering the vice admiral and rear admiral joke, one cannot forget that the commode-door is right below the rear.

    BTW, 21a THETA is one of the words appearing on CV’s grid used as image for his Word Press postings, as illustrated below:

    I could not quite follow your comments about 'theta'- except that I observed the first letters of the words mentioned reads 'REFIT'. Can you pl. explain and also about what is Word Press?
