14d Confused here too: PI for police inspector for copper is fine, but the word before replacing v with pi is avarist, which has to do with avarice and not aviarists, IMO.

DeleteI solve the mint crossword whenever Vinod or Tony put up a notice about it on their twitter feed. It has a direct link or photograph to the puzzle.
I had written to Vinod for the Puzzles so that they could be posted. He, in turn, is in contact with the paper for the same, as he is not a subscriber himself.
DeleteAfter a long time, tried THC today. Completed in about half an hour. Felt better. Only ESOTERICA took a little longer. Liked many clues. Could hit upon quite a few at first glance.
