  6. 14A was a little different from what I'm generally used to, so I thought there was a typo in it.

    It's usually the case that

    [HI][fodder][Def.] (or [Def.][fodder][HI], for that matter)

    is to be interpreted as [Def.] = homonym of (synonym of/equivalent word for [fodder]),

    whereas here we have

    [Def.] = homonym of (example of homonym of [fodder]).

    I hope that made sense!

  7. Reportedly dear dish (6) - SAMBAR [~sambar(deer)]

    Sambar is famous dish in south India,especially in TN where people take breakfast (Idli+Sambar) and also in dinner& supper.

  8. Good crossword but zapped me a bit on 14 Across. SAMBAR

    BELL PULL took me back to my days in Mombasa where I had a friend who used to go home late nights after a few tots of whiskey. His flat was up a staircase and in order not to disturb his family, he had devised a rope with a pulley that he could pull that would open up the latch and he'd totter up and quietly get into his bed. !!
