    There is a problem in 5D. Notwithstanding means 'in spite of'.

    The clue leads to two words 'not withstanding'

    Crossword setters while taking into account components in word breakup resort to English or other exotic rivers for subsidiary indication. I can quite understand it.

    Let's have an instant clue-writing exercise. Take any English (not Indian) word of your choice. While clueing it, at least one component must have an Indian river for subsidiary indication. Try!

      Nice. I used to stay in Mad-gaon for some time and the first three letters of the town rubbed off on me.

      I was a bit worried that the river might be a little obscure, but that was fast cracking, NR. Cheers !
