  1. 11d reminded of the spy story series Nick Carter, whose codename was N3, with 3 possibly standing for C.

  2. Some of the clues were brilliant. Enjoyed.

  3. Interest in CW's seems to be waning

  4. Maybe Gridman can clarify how VASE is arrived at in 21A

  5. That may take some time, Suresh, as Gridman is ailing.

  6. Deepak, that may be due to extraneous pressures or ennui on account of the quality of offerings by certain setters. Notwithstanding that, just today morning when I was on my pre prandial ambulations, a gentleman from our layout walked up to me, shook me by the hand and said he and his wife dabble in CWs, called me a pro and confessed he wanted to learn what he called the tricks of the trade.

  7. Did not know that Kishore. Here is to wishing him a speedy recovery.

  8. If Gridman is ailing, then I "feel sorry, medical officer's forgotten" - 21A

  9. I think the mot juste in my 1213 is angst and not ennui...

  10. And this gentleman (who does not belong to the so called 'elite') expressed his unhappiness about a certain setter...

  11. There are some really nice clues in this one (e.g., 8D, which would be my COD), but also a couple that fall short. Not major complaints on my part, but in an otherwise good CW, these few stick out: 28A ('to return' is misplaced), 11D (the possessive in Carter's misleads), and 12D (truly nitpicking, but the surface reading of this clue is just plain weird.)

Sorry to hear of Gridman's illness. I really enjoy his puzzles.
