  1. Hi

All the best to all the Thambis.

ODONATE (give nothing away) had to be Googled. PYGMY MARMOSET was a nice anagram, but CERTIFICATION is what quite a few of us require. 28a reminded of Obama and his eyes controversy when he was said to be checking out, not a point, butt a curve. STAG(-e), BIMLI, BOT(C)H, TAP-I-OCA were nice. Ref to Val Kilmer (Iceman in Top Gun) as next after Michael Keaton as Batman was refresing. Reduced AIRFARE should be affordable with PENSION. A few mediocre clues, you know which.

  2. Deepak, the same ones evaded me though for 6d I thought of CAPTURES, as synonym for 'picks up' but could not complete the anno.

  3. At Orkut, I have put in 18 across as:

REST (=balance) - anno (~wrest) (homophone). Sounds OK, right?

  4. 18a REST (~WREST)

    Could this be?:
    {(-n)IDO <-}{L}

  8. Google got me LIMU and MITU, since LIM seems to fit better, I'd opt for it.

  9. Sandhya, it could be anything. For now all we can say is that the answer is IDOL.

  10. Kishore, girl named Lim or Mit? Not sure, it's not even Chinese.

  11. 8D - The botanical name of BIMLI.

Just like the age-old dispute of 'which-came-first-the-egg-or-the-chicken', I have always wondered as to which gave rise to which - whether the Indian name bimli or bimbli became bilimbi in the botanical name or if it was the other way round.

Bimli is called Bimbuli in Kannada and Tulu. I would like to know the names in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu. The prefix 'huLi' or 'puLi' is found in the names of many fruits and dishes. (PuLiyogare is the best example.)

What's in a name, after? Bimli makes a fantastic saar ingredient. I enjoy it in any case or name. Over to Indian cuisine connoisseurs.

  12. Read the opening sentence of the last para above: What is in a name, after all?". Thanks.

  13. Gifu is probably right. 'If' is equated with 'and' in NJ style.

Always have a couple of blanks with NJ

  14. If and is if, what is or? Any guesses?

  15. Or could be but, and and a variety of others

  16. Good Morning.

OMG, it started again. The empty grids stared at me after a while. Some of the words are new for me. But it is surprising NJ gives so many easy ones too Glider, Thick, Pension, Seduce, Toys, Cuba, Air fare etc. I expect a even more tough offer from him tomorrow.

Pygmys marmoset--sorry never heard of it.

    Good day

    Mathu

  17. Mathu,

Who is the 'him' in your post? NJ is very much a 'her'!!!

  18. Sorry Colonel

    Thanks for the correction.

By the way the comments are very limited today any particular reason other than NJ.

    Mathu.

  20. SV 16:49, I think this clue has already been mentioned here in the backdrop of the Commonwealth Games controversy.

  21. Well, a rare twin CW today. The Bang Ed of Metro Plus has two quick CWs next to each other, to make up for the wrong CW printed yesterday... Thanks TH for the double treat.
