  2. Colonel, can you please elaborate on 25A Annotation, especially TAT part. Does tattoo also mean "getting a beating"?

  3. 25 - Shabby articles also possibly getting a beating (6) - (~that){TAT}{TOO}

    That anno is my guesswork

    Shabby articles = TAT (THAT in SMS Language)
    also = TOO
    possibly getting = connector
    a beating = definition = TATTOO (Check out TATTOO on th net) meaning a military band drum beating display, hence the beating

  4. 18A Composer here is probably meant to be the anagram indicator

  6. Thanks Suresh,

    My guesswork is all wrong then as TAT by itself means shabby articles

  8. Being away on some work, could not take part in the fireworks here:

    A female acquaitance of mine comments:

    "When male compilers provide you with vague and faulty clues, nothing much happens and they get away with murder. But when a female does the same, all hell breaks loose."

    Comments, please.

  9. Hi Richard,

    Is your female acquaintence an acquaintance of NJ by any chance?

    I don't think your acquaintance's statement is true as I remember Chaturvasi mentioning that the compiler of the Everyman CW, which in its Indian avatar appears on Sundays in the HINDU, was a female.

  10. Hi Colonel

    I just passed it on, being non-commital, without even suggesting that NJ could be the only female in the whole domain. Merely thought of checking others' views.

  11. I liked this one.
    9 - The literary touch (7,6) - BEGGING LETTER ?

    To "touch" someone is to ask/beg someone for a loan or handout.

  12. Everyone seems to have been clear on the Begging Letter except me :-o

  13. One more thumbs up to BEGGING LETTER :)

    LOL at 'ye sari ko pico karo'. PICOT is pronounced with the 'T' silent, so we are saying it right at least.
