  1. Good morning everyone.

Had to Google-search for 22A LHASA APSO and 19D BURRITO. As for the rest, good going.

9A Liveliness of the eastern fairy cut short (6) ESPRIT

Col, only recently you spoke of ESPRIT DE CORPS in the Army. Must be quite nostalgic for you.

24A. Greek Muse, a queen in Upper India initially (6) U-RANI-A. With Upper India initially, won't it be U(RANI)I?

Yes, I did notice your comment on URANIA error.

  2. Hi Richard, with 24A, I hope the compiler meant UA for Uttaranchal, instead of the literal Upper India reference (UI).

  3. Hi Bhavan, I am not sure about. Besides, it is Uttarakhand now ! Howeve, the vehicle registration continues with UA.

All said and done, I still feel it is a mistake there.

  6. A neat puzzle, as always, from Sankalak. No scholarly words, no intellectual show-offs, no bells and whistles...soft and soothing crossword!

  9. In India I never frequent any restaurant serving continental dishes.
However, during my visits to the US, either within the city where I stay or during travels we go to Italian/Mexican/etc restaurants where we might get something vegetarian.
Thus it was that I have tasted BURRITO.

  10. The BURRITO is nothing but the chicken/mutton/veg roll's that we get here in India, it has another name as well which is at the tip of my tongue but refusing to come out

  12. Cvasi sir is right. Every Mexican restaurant and a famous chain of restaurants called Taco Bell serve Burritos. Colonel is correct that a burrito is just a chappati (made with maida flour usually) with chicken/beef/vegetables plus shredded cheese, guacamole (pronounced waa-ka-mo-lee), baked beans (turned into a paste), chunks of tomatoes, onions, etc. I think the other name Colonel is thinking of is Enchilada, which is more or less the same as a burrito but with rice added.
