  2. Hi Sir,
Indian rice sought to be made their own by others (7) - BASMATI [CD]

A pretty intelligent clue due to the allusion to the patent issues involving basmati, even though "Indian rice" was a dead giveaway.

  3. Hi Tpa,
The reason why Sankalak's CW's appear easy is because he uses words which are fairly common and wordplay and surface reading of the clues are always meticulous due to which they appear to be easy
    Hi Maddy,
You are right about Basmati rice

  4. Hi friends

15A - Generally considered to be pure, Ted strays (7) - REPUTED*

I found this very interesting and accurate. It is very common these days to come across even educated persons using the expression "a reputed organization" which can only mean "an organization which is generally considered to be an organization but is not really one". It is widely used in employment advertisements.

The correct expression is "a reputable organization" or "an organization of repute". The clue here correctly interprets "repute" in its verb form. An example, "The house was reputedly sold for Rs 1 crore".

I guess most of you will agree with me.

    Regards

    Richard

  5. Richard,

You may have a point there!

I have always used the adjective 'reputable' in the contexts that you mention (I always write instinctively) but never thought of the expression 'a reputed organisation' dismissively.

Let me see what others say.
