  1. The italicised parts of your blog are all definitions for words req'd. Most of the defs. are the first word or the first few words of the clue.
    Now an indea strikes me!
    Tomorrow I am going to cover the latter half of the clue sets with a sheet of paper and try and solve the puzzle as much as possible with the first word or words and the enu (which is important, esp. for phrasal lights) - as if it's a straightforward xwd.
    Let me see how far I can go.
