  1. I don't think I have seen any movie in which Spencer Tracy acted. But this name is familiar to me. How?
Back to early Sixties, I think. Brylcreem (a must item on my father's dressing table in his dressing room (yes, the air force officers' quarters in Begumpet was palatial what with this, semi-attached bathrooms, pantry, scullery and so on) ran a competition to consumers in which one had to solve a thematic crossword (it was a small, free-form puzzle though at that time I had no chance of being able to classify grids) and one of the lights was SPENCER TRACY (put in perhaps to fit crossings from other words relating to the product).
I don't remember if I won a prize; but even if I did, it must have been some coupon that gets you another bottle of the pomade.

  4. About Spencer Tracy: I saw 'Guess Who's Coming To Dinner' recently, I think it was the last he acted in. A very likable film.

  5. Gemini sorry for the late reply,
here are the clarifications you wanted

16 D: I thought it was " et tu bruto", correct me please?
'et tu brutus' is what Caesar said to Brutus, regarding this answer check the link I have provided in the answer

1 D: I thought it were to be "FLARE UP"
Flare up is 7 letters moreover 2 words,Flashes is because of 'sudden blaze' and camera flash when 'subjects are snapped'.

    15 A: LATENT-How related to fingerprint?
Check the link provided with the answer.

24A: How stupor and good man jell?
Good man = ST (saint), Out of bed = UP

    26A:Appreciate an elaboaration

  6. Thank you for posting the solution day after day. My father could complete almost any crossword in less than 10 minutes ( he was so good) and I regret not having spent more time and learning the finer points. Atleast with your blog, the hub and crosswordunclued - it will be like having him help me out once again.

  7. I think the following two are telescopic clues, not CD, as noted above

1 Ac. Admirers of star provoke company (3, 4)

provoke = fan, company = club

3 Dn. Be untruthful at home, hold back and set an ambush (3, 2, 4)

    Be untruthful = lie
    at home = in
    hold back = wait

  8. Naveen,
Telescopic clues mean the word itself appears in the clue, like in 10A and 23D
