I seem to be getting better at the Sunday Crossword. Interesting CW today took me some time to get 5 and 10A and 7D. Excellent surface reading in all the clues

  1. 26a: If it had been 'housie' it would have cause me no problem because I have seen it played in air force clubs. It was 'house' that put me off.
    However, for 'house' Chambers has the meaning 'bingo'
    Also, the more familiar meaning of BLOTTO is 'helplessly drunk'
    BLOTTO, in the sense of 'bombarded' is not in my C (1998).

    I enjoyed the puzzle quite a bit too, nice wordplay especially for the phrases.

    26A: HOUSE by itself does stand for lotto, and the definition is about the familiar meaning of BLOTTO - both BOMBED and BLOTTO mean being helplessly drunk.
